Best team for Barclays Fantasy Premier League Football Season 2010/2011

UPDATE 13.08.2010 As it always seems to happen in Fantasy Premier League, last minute changes do occur. Some players are not fit to play or something like that. There were too many questionmarks in my team, so I changed some players. Here is my new team. No time to explain the choices I'm afraid...

Well, good luck with gameweek 1 and remember to check that none of your teams players are yellow or red-marked!

Or at least I'd like to think so. :) As this is the team I'm entering to this season's Barclays Fantasy Football (almost probably for sure maybe I won't do any more transfers...)

I've given a few Fantasy Premier League hints in the previous posts, but this is the ultimate advice, as I'm going to give away my whole team. Feel free to take suggestions from it...

Let's start with why I chose these players and what makes this the best team for Fantasy Premier League:

Goalkeepers. I've been going on and on about Foster and my faith is still strong he's going to be amazing this season. My number 1 goalkeeper that I hope will play every game. My second goalkeeper is Myhill from West Bromwich, he's cheap, he plays, and West Bromwich is going to make few surprises this season I presume. Goalkeepers cost me £8.5M.

Then to the defence. My tip from earlier, Samba, he's there. From Wolves Jody Craddock (132 points last year, 5 goals, 2 assists, 13 bonus points) very very decent defender for £5M. And also Kevin Foley, who will be my substitute defender (means he's cheap, and probably plays for sure if Craddock doesn't) 2 playing defenders are Shawcross from Stoke and Evra from ManU. So for defence I spent £26.5M.

Midfield consists of Lampard, N'Zogbia, Bale and Malouda with Etherington as substitute midfielder. Lampard, yea you know why. He'll be the captain of my team in the first gameweek. Malouda played a great last season and will improve. N'Zogbia, Bale and Etherington are real value players, prices low, sure starting formation players who can score and assist goals. So they're in. Midfield costs me £41M

And then the forwards, tricky as ever. As I've spent most of my money now, Drogba and Rooney are out. Tevez was my hint of hints last season and finally he showed what he can do. Surely as good a striker as Drogba and Rooney, Tevez and his £10.5M pricetag convinced me once more. And then Saha from Everton. 13 goals last season and price of £8M go together nicely. My third forward is Kevin Doyle from Wolves. A forward I'll probably keep for a long time. And everytime Wolves plays against a weaker opponent he'll be a sure starting formation player in my Fantasy Football team. His price is £5.5M, great bargain material as he did score 9 goals last season. And that sums my £100M team as forwards cost £24M.

What do you think is the best team for this seasons Fantasy Premier League?

good blog! that help me so much.

i think you have a strong midfield but i think your defence is weak.wolves concede alot of goals and blackburn and stoke have tough openining fixtures so i wouldnt expect too many clean sheets there.your strikers are risky too with saha injury prone and doyle not guaranteed to get you goals i feel you may be too reliant on tevez.a strike force without drogba or rooney is unthinkable in my view!

evra misses 1st game of season

Didn't find that information anywhere with a fast look, but it seems Foster's had a back injury and it's doubtfull whether he'll play the first match... :(

it looks like u dont have players from arsenal..chamakh at decent value..i think he will be a good striker this season..

I have to admit, I'm not a big fan of Arsenal. And I don't think they'll do too well this season. Chamakh is an interesting player, but it usually takes a while for players to get to the rhytm of Premier League, so I'll have to see how he performs in the few opening matches before I'd buy him.

And to the second anonymous, I'd have to disagree with you about my defence. Wolves will be better team this season than it was year before and will do fine. And the good thing about Craddock is he can score goals, wich is great big plus for any defender in FPL. You're right about Saha though, he's a little risk on my part. But a risk that will pay beautifully if it works... :)

question..jonathan..where did u finish last year in FPL out of interest?

Anonymous said...

do you guys think Hernandez will start the opening match for man u?

Janne Tuikka said...

I finished very poorly. I had to stop writing this blog for a long time last season and I didn't make transfes at that time either.

Janne Tuikka said...

I doubt Hernandez will be in the opening formation...

Is bale going to play every game? Modric and krancjar both play left midfield too and bale may be saved for europe. Also blackburn and stoke leak goals away from home..... Good player this season will be ste ireland when he signs for villa.

doesn't bale play left back??and I heard he's doubtful for the weekend??

thanks for valuable info ... no mu player,i think valencia should include since i believe he's vey decent player so any comment on this?

Valencia is a really good player, for whom I had high hopes allready last season. But there has been something missing in his game...We'll see soon enough how this season starts...

And about Bale, yes he does, and doubtfull is a speculation as I've not read it for sure anywhere...

Interesting. I'm playing for the first time this year so don't take anything I say too seriously I did make much of the same choices though, for the same sort of reasons. (Down to Myhill as sub goalie).

I think my main rationale is that I want to select strikers who are always playing and who are 'true' strikers. Other teams seem to score goals from everywhere, so I'm going with players from those teams for defence and midfield.

I'm not including players from big teams where you never know who's going to play on any given day (Say, Arsenal), however Vermaelen may be worth the 7.5.

Oh wait, the main point I wonder about is including someone like Lampard or Gerrard or not. There's no arguing with the amount of points they haul in from midfield, but verrry expensive. I would have to make big sacrifices elsewhere.

Another thing I'm doing is including a bunch of Newcastle players for cheap subs: Teams that win the Championship comfortably tend to do well in the first Premier League season that follows especially the first half, and they're all incredibly cheap. So I'm including Nolan in mid field for example, he will score goals if Newcastle get a decent run, and at 5 million his value can only go up. (Esp. given that Fantasy football seems a bit skewed towards scoring mid-fielders, and very much against holding/defensive midfielders. Lucas may be about to have the season of his life for Liverpool, but you're not going to know it from his score..

Han.

Interesting thoughts, especially about Newcastle. The risers from Championship really want to win matches, especially on their home turf. And they have been known to make surprises against even the biggest teams in the beginning of the season.

You're also very right about the point scoring system, which is very match against players like Leiva Lucas, who you mentioned.

About very expensive players like Lampard, given that the sum to buy players is as big as £100M, you can easily afford one of these expensive players. And they usually make really good captains, because they get good points in almost every match and occasionally make huge scores.

hey do you know if lampard or darren bent will start tomorrow?

Janne Tuikka said...

Thank you Zalk, for the compliments. :)

Your team looks quite alright. Carew is a good pick in forwards, with Tevez and Saha. Also Mikel Arteta very good pick.

Janne Tuikka said...

Lampard suffered a minor injury in the national team match, and he's playing is still a questionmark...

Great comments!
Please give me some tips about my line up:
Hart (Taylor)

Glen Johnson
Micah Richards
Terry (Perch, Pablo)

Benayoun
Scholes
Nasri
Reo-Coker
(Delap)

Rooney (c)
Tevez
Anelka

Thank you!

Janne Tuikka said...

Hart is a solid goalkeeper, the problem with him is that there's also Given in City, and they might be playing 50/50...

Your team is also a little striker-heavy, which means there's a lot of money in forwards. Of course that's no problem if they all perform, and with that threesome they just might :)

I'm sorry but I think that Craddok and Doyle are totally unnecessary. Also, Lampard has made an obvious regress. If you took some players of both, your new and old team, it would be better:

Foster (Reina)
Ridgewell, Baines (Evra, Samba, Jagielka)
N’Zogbia, Etherington, Bale, Malouda, Yaya Toure
Elmander, Tevez, Caroll

If you add in Elmander and Caroll, your team would be perfect even with this old 2-5-3 formation. I hope you are checking your comment daiyly.

Now if we talk about my team, I have:

Hart, Robinson
Vidic, ColeA, Baines (Ridgewell, Huth)
Nasri, Gamst Pedersen, Nani, Brunt (Adam)
Elmander, Berbatov, Caroll

Do you think it's good (I know that you're not an expert, but I need your opinion on this.

Thanks
