Wildcard in English Premier League Fantasy Football

I bet many of the managers in English Premier League would like to have one wildcard in their possession when the season begins. Unfortunately they don't, but the players of fantasy premier league get, not only one but two wildcards to use. One you can use any time of the season and the other during gameweeks 20 to 23.

Wildcard is of course a chance to look over your team, and change the players to your likings. If you want, you can change every player in your football team. There has always been many different opinions as to when to use your wildcards to gain maximun advantage. Some say to use very early on in the premier league season, and some think you should save your opportunity until you're team value has increased. Thought process in that being of course that with more money you can buy better players for you fantasy premier league team.

My opinion is that using your wildcard early on is a good decision if the team you chose in the beginning of the English Premier League season just isn't performing to their abilities. The math is simple, every gameweek you get less points than you should be, and the more gameweeks you do that, the less points you're getting. But if using the wildcard improves your team dramatically, your also scoring more points every gameweek. And again, the more gameweeks, the more points.

If however, you managed to assemble a team that is doing very well in premier league fantasy football, you should hold on to your wildcard and wait for a better time to use it. One such better time is of course if games get delayed and many so called double gameweeks occur. Using you wildcard knowing that many of the player transferred in will play one or more double gameweeks, can lead to incredible results.

So what is your opinion, when should fantasy football managers use their wildcard?

Tottenham and Chelsea continue strongly, Everton still struggles

Tonight's games gave us one surprise and that can be counted either as riser team Burnley's strong play or Everton's continueing struggle to perform. Burnley took another one goal victory against a team considered much stonger at their homefield. Elliott scored Burnley's goal at the 34th minute of the match. And just like in the game against ManU opponent couldn't score even from penalty kick as Saha kicked the penalty wide. Way to go Burnley.

Tottenham took third victory of the season and climbed to number one spot in Premier league table. Team was already behind one goal as West Ham's striker Cole scored a goal in the beginning of the first half. But it was goals by Defoe and Lennon which carried the team into another win.

Chelsea played against Fulham and gave the home team no chance what so ever. Chelsea's striker pair Drogba and Anelka both scored one and gave one assist as Chelsea took second win of the season with score 0-2. And with many high class players even in reserve it seems even injuries couldn't stop this train from heading towards their ultimate goal of the season, the championship.

English Premier League results 23.8.2009

West Ham - Tottenham 1-2
Burnley - Everton 1-0
Fulham - Chelsea 0-2

Premier Fantasy League Gameweek 3 - Arsenal dominates, ManU back on track

First games of gameweek 3 in the fantasy premier league have been played. Arsenal continued with great effort, 4-1 win over Portsmouth shows the team really is on top of it's game. Midfielder Diaby scored two goals and it seems Arsenal is not short on players with great ability to score goals and turn matches. Arshavin still played under radar and was substituted after 75 minutes of play.

Manchester United turned their sleigh with 0-5 win over Wigan. Lost match against Burnley seems to have awakened the team and with forwards Rooney(2 goals) and Berbatov(goal and an assist) in awesome form, team gave Wigan no chance in tonights game.

Also Manchester City remains undefeated this season, City acquired one goal win over riser Wolverhampton. Emmanuel Adebayor scored after 16 minutes of play and even though both teams had many scoring opportunites after that, the match ended 1-0.

English Premier League results 22.8.2009
Arsenal - Portsmouth 4-1
Birmingham - Stoke 0-0
Hull - Bolton 1-0
Man City - Wolverhampton 1-0
Sunderland - Blackburn 2-1
Wigan - ManU 0-5

Game preview Sunderland vs Chelsea

CHELSEA V HULL CITY, PREMIER LEAGUE

Both teams opened the season with a win, Sunderland over Bolton and Chelsea over Hull. Chelsea's Drogba scored twice and seems to be in good form. Sunderland's new signing Bent also started the season with a goal, but scoring against Chelsea might be a more difficult task.

Tip from Chelsea's squad to this game is Salomon Kalou, Kalou didn't start the opening game but had two great goal opportunities in the last 20 minutes he played. Kalou should be in the opening squad in this match and I consider him as the "black horse" who could earn decent points. Also Lampard wasn't in the top of his game against Hull but should do better now.

Chelsea is a clear favourite to win the match and Sunderland is just going to try and keep the game in 0-0 as long as they can.

Prediction:

Chelsea wins with two goals, so 0-2 or 1-3

English Premier League Results Saturday gameweek 1

CHELSEA V HULL CITY, PREMIER LEAGUE

The first matches of Premier League Fantasy Football have been played, and it's time check how did the teams do.

The real season opener Chelsea vs Hull was Didier Drogba's game. The player from Ivory Coast scored two goals and turned the game for the Blues. Hull took the lead with newcomer Stephen Hunt's goal while the matchclock was on the 27th minute. Ten minutes later Drogba evened out the score with a nice freekick from 25 yards. Chelsea had to wait for the game-winning goal way into overtime, but Drogba's second goal gave them the three points they were after.

Didier Drogba was the matches point-shark with 12 points, he would of had 13 without the yellow card he was given.

Saturdays last game was perhaps the most anticipated match of the day. Everton vs Arsenal. Everton continued the trend to start the season with lousy perfomance and lost 1-6.

Arsenal opened the match strongly and the goal that was in the air came in the 26th minute when Denilson put the ball on the net from Fabregas' assist. After that Everton really doubled their efforts, but they couldn't keep up with Arsenals fast midfielders. In half-time the match was 0-2 due to Vermaelen's debut goal he headed in from Van Persies freekick.

The second half was all Arsenal's show and the score in the end was 1-6. Embarrassing opener for Everton and truly great beginning for Arsenal, who even while only the first game played, seems like a team ready to fight for the championship.

Game's and the whole season openening day's star was Francesc Fabregas, 2 goals and 2 assist gained the midfielder unbelievable 22 points. Now he would have made a great captain for my Fantasy Premier League team...

All results Saturday 15.8.2009

Chelsea vs Hull 2-1
Aston Villa vs Wigan Athletic 0-2
Blackburn Rovers vs Manchester City 0-2
Bolton Wanderers vs Sunderland 0-1
Portsmouth vs Fulham 0-1
Stoke City vs Burnley 2-0
Wolverhampton vs West Ham United 0-2
Everton vs Arsenal 1-6

Premier League Fantasy Soccer - Gameweek 1 game Preview Everton vs Arsenal

Football - Everton v Arsenal Barclays Premier League

Everton finished 5th last season and made the FA cup final, but with heavy hitter's injuries like Jagielka and Arteta, it's opening match doesn't look to become an easy one. Pre-season results don't promise a whole lot with recently losing to Blackpool 1-2. Also Everton hasn't been too great in season starting home matches.

Arsenal

Arsenal has been selling this summer, and with Adebayour and Toure gone the team has lost a lot of talent. Of course there are still some left with Arshavin in the middlefield and Van Persie in the front. Last three pre-season matches have brought two wins against Atletico Madrid and Glasgow Rangers and one lost against Valencia.

Preview

Arsenal is a favourite to win, and they might win big if Everton starts it's season as poorly as last season.

Teams most likely to perform well in the opening weeks of Premier League Fantasy Football

Premier League: Manchester United Champions 2009

The season opening matches usually offer many surprises but there are couple of teams whose first opponents should be easily beaten. The best team to buy players from considering the first few gameweeks is definitely Manchester United. Birmingham, Burnley and Wigan should all be easy wins for last years champions. I also believe Manchester City will be at 6 points after first three gameweeks. And the reason they only have 6 points, instead of 9, is that they don't have a match in gameweek 2.

Seven other teams that don't play on gameweek 2 are Arsenal, Aston Villa, Blackburn, Bolton, Everton, Fulham and West Ham Utd. Of course they get to play these matches some other fantasy premier league gameweeks, and then these teams' players will be worth their weight in gold.
